[Tilemap / External Tilemap] Animated water tiles render misaligned/rotated during frame playback #9231

Open

Description

@nothingtomuch

Is there an existing issue for this?

Describe the bug

When playing animations on a Tilemap/External Tilemap (such as animated water autotiles), tile transformations (rotation / vertical & horizontal flips) become scrambled across animation frames. Instead of smoothly transitioning between animation states, individual tile instances scramble their orientation or apply incorrect flip flags, causing shorelines and tile joins to break visually.

    Update: I found the documentation describing the limitation with Tiled animations that use frames from arbitrary atlas locations or repeat frames. I wasn't aware this was documented when I opened the issue. I'll leave this open for now in case the behaviour shown in my reproduction needs further clarification. Thanks!
