Hey! I've been looking into this as well. Just wanted to report on some findings.
Given that, it seems like ReDoc may be one of the remaining pieces to resolve before FastAPI can move its default OpenAPI version to 3.2. I can also understand why that makes it difficult to give a more precise ETA for One thing I'm curious about: is ReDoc CE 3 something FastAPI is intentionally waiting on before moving to OpenAPI 3.2, or would the maintainers consider moving to OpenAPI 3.2 independently and treating ReDoc compatibility separately? I mainly ask because that seems to determine whether there's useful prerequisite work contributors could help with in the meantime. I don't intend to add to the abundant noise these features are already creating. |

Update on the ReDoc blocker mentioned above: Redoc 3.0.0 was released on 2026-10-14 with OpenAPI 3.2 support ( So both bundled UIs (Swagger UI and ReDoc) now support 3.2. A few things to note for migrating
This would also fix the current mismatch where FastAPI emits |

Pinging from #12965 — @Kludex said to open a Discussion once OpenAPI supports QUERY.
OpenAPI 3.2 shipped last September with QUERY support, and RFC 10008 went final earlier this month. Looks like we're unblocked.
I took a shot at implementing this locally, and found a couple of spots that are easy to miss because CI won't catch them:
PathIteminopenapi/models.pydefines explicit fields forgetthroughtrace, but notquery. It works anyway because ofextra="allow", but there's no type checking on it and nothing fails to tell you it's missing.test_operations_signatures.pyhas a hardcoded list of method names to check signature consistency betweenAPIRouterandFastAPI. If you forget to add"query"there, mismatches between the two classes just silently pass.Swagger UI doesn't render it yet, but the JSON output is correct.
I have a PR ready if you want it.
