Building in the cloud the dot, whl and slim versions #1726

Closed

Description

@stonebig

Goal: from current local build chain, do a cloud build chain for "dot" and "whl"

Step1:

  • ask AI to translate current build steps in the cloud:
    • preparing the structure
    • finding a initial python install, an option is uv standalones
    • puting it in the structure
    • adding complements
    • zipping result,
    • having result downloadable.
  • see the rough edges to solve trying to do so
  • resolve problems

Step2:

  • iterate

    so it gives:

    • a "WinPython-dot-3.13.zip" artefact,
    • that contains "WinPython-dot-3.13.zip",
    • that contains "python" ,
    • that contains

but at this cloud stage we were good .... except no pip.exe...

with build #13, pip is upgraded

with build #16 , we still miss:

    • env.ini
    • wppm --movable, that may not work in utf8 place
    • publication, of .7z of auto-extract

    so far, no use of:

    • build_winpython_meta.py :
      • launch a build
      • MISSING: to create several build with a toml parameter
    • build_winpython.py:
      • to log events: github actions does it
      • to generate lockfiles... well it's done on local, but using a hashed requirement output from local as directive
      • todo: regenerating lock and requirements-with-has, can be down in cloud
      • MISSING: generate all types of artefacts, can be done in the cloud
      • MISSING: manual or automatic in a release ?
    • make.py:
      • creation of infrastructure is done via the .yaml
      • MISSING: env.ini declarative part

env.ini is there at build #26 ... so that dotcloud is apparently complete

so now, verification time on our anti-virus friends.
there is a new NANO-antivirus that has decided he was no loving WinPython : past or future.

new auto-extract 7z.exe are not liked per the tiny guys, for now.

one day later after iniital cloud build submission, on final b3 cloud builds:

    • bkav-pro is now always happy of the cloud build switch
    • Trapmine, who only manage .exe, is never happy on .exe
    • Securage who only manage .exe, is never happy on small .exe but ok on the big .exe
    • .7z an .zip are all good

    so:

    • being out of bkav-pro red is nice
    • ... anti-virus don't like novelty day 1, but calm down a bit day 2, as usual.

    new Cloud build method is:

    • reproducible per anyone, ZERO requirement but a github account
    • hash-256 checks based.

    In the process:

    • copilote free plan was hit very quickly
    • perplexity was interesting
    • gemini flash was used to finish,
    • starting to hear about whatsapp ai
    • keep hearing preference for openai, from humans I cross and who do pay
    • Dylan Patel of semi-analysis is the AI commentator of these times

all "published" build will now be done in the cloud, as slim and free versions were finally able to fit.
