Tabnine

Tabnine is an AI coding platform that runs in the IDE and terminal, with context-aware inline completions, in-IDE chat, and agents. Its agents plan and execute multi-step development tasks across the SDLC, including code generation, refactoring, testing, documentation, and code review.

These agents run inside the IDE or in the terminal through the Tabnine CLI, and they can be extended with MCP tools. The chat and suggestions use the surrounding project context to answer questions and generate code.

Tabnine is sold on enterprise plans, either as SaaS or as a private installation.

In July 2026, Tricentis acquired Tabnine and plans to integrate its Enterprise Context Engine into the Tricentis Agentic Quality Engineering Platform.

Tabnine emphasizes privacy and control, including private, self-hosted deployment in a VPC or on-premises, even in air-gapped environments.

On every plan, Tabnine personalizes suggestions through retrieval-augmented generation over the developer’s local workspace. The Tabnine Context Engine can also connect whole repositories on GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or Perforce, so agents get structured, organization-wide context beyond that workspace. Enterprise private installations can run a custom model fine-tuned on the customer’s own private code.

Tabnine’s Universal models are trained on permissively licensed open-source code to reduce licensing risks, and its Tabnine Protected 2 model is trained exclusively on unrestricted code. A Provenance and Attribution layer, currently in private preview, checks generated code against publicly visible code on GitHub and flags the source repository and its license. That protection extends to third-party models like Claude, GPT, or Gemini.
