Program Overview

Trinity’s Premed Postbac Program is a one-year program designed for students seeking to strengthen their academic record as they prepare to apply to medical school. This supportive, structured program combines a cohort experience with individualized academic planning, allowing students to pursue their goals through coursework in the fall and spring semesters. Students enroll in undergraduate courses taught by our world-renowned faculty, with opportunities to engage in research alongside faculty and gain clinical experience in the community.

Each student will receive individualized advising throughout the program. Advisors will work closely with students to develop an academic plan that reflects their previous educational experiences, individual needs, and goals for medical school. Depending on their academic background, students may enroll in remaining medical school prerequisite courses they have not yet completed or pursue upper-level science coursework to strengthen their academic preparation and medical school application. Advising will also support students as they navigate the broader medical school application process and prepare to become competitive applicants.

Structured MCAT preparation is available after the spring semester when courses are complete to help students develop the skills and test-taking strategies needed for success on the MCAT. Individualized MCAT advising is available throughout the time of the program.

Advisors will help students develop meaningful connections with community partners to gain exposure to clinical practice and the health care environment.

Students will have opportunities to explore research at Duke through connections with Trinity faculty and the broader Duke research community. These opportunities will allow students to learn more about scientific inquiry and, where appropriate, pursue research experiences aligned with their academic and professional interests.

A defining feature of the program will be its small, supportive cohort environment. Students will participate in shared programming designed to build community, foster peer support, and complement their academic and professional development.
