Arch Linux Cleanup

Arch Linux Cleanup

Basic notes and commands/scripts to help ease the cleanup process of your Arch Linux installation.

Introduction

One of the big pros of using Arch Linux is obviously the reduced bloat on your system, as you are obviously the sole proprietor of such bloat.

However, just as a large software project that gets developed on constantly, we end up with technical debt - and when using your Arch system as a daily driver, you will probably acquire a certain amount of such "bloat debt" over the years.

Wire Rope End-Termination with Aluminum Ferrule

alternative to end-termination with clamp

This is written as primer for a hands-on individual using 1/16"-1/8" wire rope for rigging or other needs.

  • It assumes basic knowledge of safety, manufacturing, fabrication and engineering processes but intends to elaborate on tools and techniques for effective and safe wire rope initialization.

Cutting

  • angle grinder
  • wire-rope specific cutter (if stocked by store should be located physically-close to wire rope/rigging

webos-debloat: reversible debloat for rooted LG webOS TVs (hide bloat tiles, stop preloading, turn off promos/ACR)

webos-debloat

One shell script that makes a rooted LG webOS TV lighter and quieter:

  • hides bloat tiles and background apps from the launcher
  • stops preloading apps the TV keeps in RAM whether or not you open them
  • turns off home-screen promotions, promo videos, sports alerts, content recommendations and Live Plus (ACR)

Nothing is deleted and the root filesystem is never touched. It only edits

Claude Code burns ~15-20% of your tokens on a 3-word status line: a Bun preload that turns agent_summary off · by Flamerix AI, flamerix.ai · MIT

Claude Code burns ~15–20% of your tokens on a 3-word status line. Here's how to turn it off

by Flamerix AI · MIT License

Tested on Linux, Claude Code 2.1.257–2.1.312; macOS reported working by others (see Tested versions). The binary is not modified (BUN_OPTIONS=--preload). An update can silently undo it, so see Verify.

TL;DR

Every ~30 seconds, Claude Code re-sends each background agent's full transcript to the model just to fill that agent's status line in the agents panel. no-agent-summary.js is a Bun --preload

Bug Report: macOS 26 breaks /etc/resolver/ supplemental DNS for custom TLDs

Ah, the joys of waking up to find the Mac's done an overnight upgrade… and erm, suddenly things stop working. Thankfully, me and Claude managed to work out what the fuck is going on… I'm sharing here, as well as having raised in on https://feedbackassistant.apple.com/feedback/22280434 (that seems to need a login?).

Bug Report: macOS 26 breaks /etc/resolver/ supplemental DNS for custom TLDs

Product: macOS 26.3.1 (Darwin 25.3.0, Build 25D771280a) Component: Networking → DNS / mDNSResponder Regression from: macOS 25.x 26.3.0 (working immediately prior to overnight update)
